Recurve Archery and Crossbows
Our director, Jason Spering, first got into archery as a young lad aged 10. Jason grew up in the scouts and always enjoyed archery.
At the age of 17 Jason met his partner, Emma, also 17, who was in the Scouts archery team as a young helper and drafted Jason in to help with the Archery team whenever they could. When they had turned 18, Jason and Emma took up the opportunity to complete their archery instructor qualification with Archery GB, and then continued to volunteer for the Scouts archery team for several years. In 2019 Jason bought his own Archery range.
Originally Jason set his range up as a hobby, and the idea was that he would be able to set this up in his garage, so that he could stand on his driveway shooting into the garage. Emma wasn’t so keen on this idea, but Jason persevered and Emma soon came round to the idea, buying her own equipment herself once she’d seen the range in action.
In 2020, Jason (who at the time worked as a carer) bought some more equipment and decided to begin his business venture – which is where On Point Archery was born!
He had the idea for a number of years, and after working hundreds of hours each month throughout the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 Jason decided that it was the right time to set up his business, and with that, Jason bought a trailer, bought some bits and set about offering use of his mobile archery range for all types of events, big or small.
These events can be big or small and include birthday parties, weddings, private experiences, 1 to 1 instruction, beginners courses, county shows, stag/hen dos, festivals and lots more.
In 2021, Jason and Emma got married and On Point Archery was very much the third wheel in their relationship! Jason did his official launch event at Sturton by Stow Primary School in August ‘21 and offered up his event called “Sturton day fest” and from there, On Point Archery was born again, as it was being talked about and starting to get out to events. Jason continued to grow his business, offering up experience days that the public could book on to, offering private tuition and getting out to events, as well as going into schools.
In 2022 Jason got his first school booking. They wanted Jason to set up the Archery range and offer this up for their whole school as an educational activity to have a go during their sports week.
In April 2023, Jason and Emma introduced On Point Archery to a new member of staff – Oakley. Oakley attended his first event at Daisy made at only 3 weeks old and loves being outdoors working with mum and dad on the Archery range. The trio attended On Point Archery’s first county show together – Shropshire county show along with Ann, Callum and Dawn who work very hard to support On Point Archery.
He continues to come to events with us and Jason and Emma hope that he will get just as much enjoyment out of doing archery as they do. Fast forward to June 2023 – Jason bought another trailer, another range as the enquiries came flooding in, and Jason realised that he soon needed to expand and be in more places at once.
This family business is still very small, but hopes that this will become our full time job and hobby in the next few years, and plans for more exciting ventures are already underway, so do keep an eye on our social media for more announcements coming over the next couple of years!
